Microsoft offers to fix your PC
New self-repair service, called Fix It, works for all PCs from Windows XP up.
The software is an extension of the automatic self-repair features available in Windows 7 and on some online help pages, but extends them to Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Microsoft claims that the software can repair around 300 common problems and prevent them becoming more serious.
And because it also keeps track of what hardware and software the computer is running it can provide detailed information to Microsoft support staf, if it can't fix the problem itself.
Many Windows users will already be familiar with the 'Fix It' buttons which have been available on many Microsoft online help pages for some time, which would attempt to repair individual problems.
The Fix It download bundles together these solutions to many commons problems and makes them available in a way that will work when the computer can't connect to the internet.
The software is available to download now from Microsoft's site. Windows XP users will need to be running the Service Pack 3 update in order for Fix It to work.
